Purchase Epoxy Primer through your local Southern Polyurethane, Inc. jobber or contact us to place a private order with free shipping. SPI Epoxy Primer is a two-part epoxy coating product that can replace acid-etch primers. Order gallons or quarts to purchase the amount of Epoxy Primer you need for your project.
SPI Epoxy Primer is a high build primer solution for any type of metal, fiberglass and sheet molding compound with surface imperfections. This primer is easily sandable, unlike many other epoxies, which will reduce the time you will spend blocking between coats.
Epoxy primer is durable and adhesive. Its viscosity and chemical structure increase each coating’s lifespan and improve resistance to chemicals and corrosion. As an adhesive substance, Epoxy Primer sticks reliably to most surfaces, preventing the primer coating and other products from peeling. This primer also contains ultraviolet (UV) inhibitors to protect the surface from sun damage.
This quick-drying epoxy primer is available in gray, white, black and red oxide. Each color variation and activator is available in gallon and quart sizes. Use the shade most similar to the final color you want to achieve.
To use the Epoxy Primer, first, prepare the surface by sanding it. Use 80-grit dual-action sandpaper for bare metals and grit in the range of 180-320 for paint or other primer. Then, clean the surface using our 700-1 Waterborne Wax and Grease Remover. Allow 45-60 minutes to pass before applying the Epoxy Primer.
SPI Epoxy Primer activates with 6700-1 or 6700-4 Activator in a 1-to-1 mix ratio. You can reduce the Epoxy Primer by 5-50% to use it as a sealer. Reduce with SPI 870, 885 or 895 reducer. Induce for at least 30 minutes before application. The pot life is 72-120 hours in a sealed container.
Apply SPI Epoxy Primer with a 1.4-1.5 millimeter gun tip. Spray in an environment at 65 degrees Fahrenheit or above and maintain the temperature for 24 hours. The primer has a 30-minute flash time at 70 degrees and will base over in as little as four hours at a 1-to-1 ratio.
Wait 12-16 hours to dry sand each time you apply a coat, depending on temperature. The primer can undergo wet sanding after roughly four hours.
As you consider SPI automotive coatings for your next project, you can be certain our 100% MADE IN THE USA products will be comparable or superior in quality to anything available in today’s market – at any price.
